Moab to Canyonlands – 59 miles
This morning we had a little sprinkle in camp as we loaded bikes to be shuttled to the furthest point in C’lands. It was a perfect start to the day with overcast sky. It was a welcome change from the heat as we all started in jackets.
The drop off point was at a 6080′ overlook that was a good 50 miles from Moab. It was mostly down hill as we started the ride and we stopped frequently at viewpoints to take photos.
After getting through the Canyonlands we biked to Dead Horse State Park. This was eight miles in with a head wind but well worth the effort when I got to the lookout point…I could have sat there for hours. Took a quick look in the visitors center and then biked the eight miles back (uphill but with a tail wind) to the lunch stop.
After a jumbo burger with all the fixings, it was off on the final stretch. It was almost 30 miles back to camp with some pretty sweet downhills. The were several stretches today where I would go two miles without pedaling. Of course that didn’t last as the last ten miles we had substantial head winds. You had to work your tail off to pedal downhill. Oh well.
